Mushroom Coral are the most forgiving coral any aquarist could ask for. Quick to reproduce in the home aquarium, with low light and flow requirements, they may very well be the best beginner’s coral available in the hobby. They also have much to offer to more advanced aquarist, whether it be as a space filler, or a "Mushroom Garden" which displays the many, many color and texture varieties these coral exhibit.
For the beginner, more common varieties such as Rhodactis mushrooms, and many others, are an ideal selection. You can have a large variety of coral without breaking the bank if you invest in Mushroom Coral, which will quickly either spread naturally or be ready to frag naturally. These frags can be traded for more coral, or sold. It is a wise way to break out in to the hobby on a budget.
If you're a more advanced aquarist, harder mushrooms to acquire, such as Ricordia Yuma, may be more appealing. All though slightly harder to care for than the average mushroom coral, these insanely colorful pieces can appeal to anyone.
Nearly all mushrooms require lower light intensity, and low flow, so they may need to be placed in a shaded area or on the bottom if your system is running high wattage T5 or Metal Halide.
