Marineland canister filter 360
I purchased the filter online and received the filter in about a week. Right away I found that the filter media was difficult to put in the canister; due to the trays not aligning correctly and the media preventing the lid from sealing correctly. Once I was able to fill and seal the canister, all I had to do was connect the tubes. This was difficult as well, because if the tubes weren’t on correctly and then tightened correctly, the filter would leak at the tube connections. After an hour of frustration putting it together, turning it on was a surprisingly a breeze, because there is a push-button primer pump on the lid. After a few pumps, the canister filter fills with water and starts immediately when turned it on, pumping perfectly.
Once the filter was hooked up and working, I assumed everything was going well and would continue to do so. However, after about 2 hours after the canister filter had been turned on, it started to
leak from the lid! I had to turn it off and take it apart. Luckily, this was easy
because the filter has a shut-off valve where the water is pumped back into the
tank, so I could simply turn the valve around and no water would flow out. The shut-off valve, combined with quick-disconnects, makes it easy to remove the intake and return tubes so that the canister can be accessed. After disconnecting the tubes, I checked the canister and found I had put it
together correctly, and that the filter media was not preventing the o-ring from
sealing. Puzzled about not being able to find a problem, I put everything back together, and the filter operated normally. However, the filter continued to leak after a few
hours! After the third time, I called the
manufacturer, Marineland. Marineland told me that their canister filters usually
leak (!) and that I could return it and get another. "Why would I waste time to get another one,
when the manufacture tells me they leak?", I asked myself. I opted to return the canister filter
instead.
After my experience with the Marineland Multi-Stage Canister filter (model 360), I do not recommend anyone purchase this filter. I hope that this review has helped you in your
future purchases regarding canister filters and that you do not make the same
mistake I did!
